Guerlain - 175 Years Old And Over 300 Fragrances! Who Can Beat That?

Guerlain is one of the most renowned perfume houses in France. The company itself is 175 years old with over 300 fragrances under its label. Guerlain was founded by Pierre-Fran'ois-Pascal Guerlain way back in 1828 when he opened his first shop in Rue de Rivoli in Paris. Here his clients could get custom blend fragrances which were Guerlain's unique selling point. Guerlain has famous clients like the Queen of Belgium and in 1953; he earned him a patent of Royal Provider.

After Pierre-Francois-Pascal Guerlain passed away, the fragrance house was inherited by his two sons; Gabriel and Aime. Some of the fragrances credited to Aime were Fleur D?Italie (1884), Skine (1885), Rococo (1887), Excellence (1890), Belle-France (1892), Cipricime, Eau de Cologne du Coq (1894). Aime was also said to be the pioneer in incorporating synthetic materials in his most famous creations, Jicky (1889).

Later on Gabriel's son, Jacques Guerlain made an incredible mark in the perfume industry. His legendary creation was called the Shalimar (1925) which has a very strong influence of the East. Among other popular fragrances from Jacques were Jardin de Mon Cure (1895), Voila Pourquoi J?Aimais Rosine (1900), Muguet (1905), and Apr's l'Ond'e (1906). His Champs Elysees fragrance is also available today, but it is a different version which is created by Jean Paul Guerlain, his grandson.

Jean Paul Guerlain took over the reins from his grandfather in 1956 and was the nose behind many popular fragrances. He retired only two year back and his creations were some of the most extraordinary fragrances in perfumery. His fragrances include V'tiver (1959), Chant d?Ar'mes (1962), Habit Rouge (1965), L?Eau de Guerlain (1974), Parure (1975), First (1976), Silences (1978), Nah'ma (1976), Jardins de Bagatelle (1983), Derby (1985), Samsara (1989), Heritage (1992), Petite Guerlain (1994), Un Air de Samsara, Champs Elysees (1996), Coriolan (1998), Mahora (2000).

As mentioned earlier, Jean Paul's creation of Champs Elysees was completely different from that of his grandfather. After Jean Paul's Champs Elysees, Guerlain house started with the Aqua Allegoria Line which used fresh flowers and herbs.

This luxury French fragrance house chose Hillary Swank as their new face for their women's perfume launch in 2006 called Insolence. She also signed a three-year contract with Guerlain as their new inspiration and spokesperson. Hillary's inclination to choose challenging and risky roles together with her warm and unique personality made her the obvious choice for Guerlain.
